Professor Yu Qiao obtained his B.S. degree in Applied Mechanics in 1994 from the University of Science and Technology of China, his M.S. Degree in Materials Science in 1997 from the Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2002 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was an assistant professor in the University of Akron from 2002-2006, and has been an associate professor, professor at UCSD since 2006. Professor Qiao’s research is focused on advanced protection and damping materials/structures, structures and materials for high-power batteries, novel infrastructural materials and their processing systems, high-energy-density smart materials/structures, energy conversion materials for low-grade heat, etc.
